SCP-409
"Contagious Crystal"
"Contagious Crystal"
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-409 is a large crystalline structure embedded into the surrounding terrain. Due to its immobile nature and extreme biohazard risk SCP-409 is housed within a sealed containment chamber. The containment chamber is equipped with an airlock system which may be operated either manually or via remote button controls. A built in failsafe gas system is installed and can be activated by a manual lever. This gas is intended to rapidly accelerate the termination of any personnel or organisms infected by SCP-409, preventing further crystallization and spread.
Access to SCP-409’s containment chamber is strictly limited to Level-4 or higher personnel.
Description: SCP-409 is a massive crystalline structure approximately the size of a small house. It manifests as a dense crystal cluster with a faint blue coloration. Any direct physical contact with SCP-409 initiates a rapid crystallization process in the affected organism. Crystalline growths designated SCP-409-1 begin to propagate from the point of contact and progressively spread throughout the host’s body.
As SCP-409-1 continues to replicate internal pressure increases until the host undergoes a catastrophic rupture, resulting in a violent, pressurized explosion. Secondary contact with SCP-409-1 either through injury or exposure to fragments will result in further spread of infection.
No known treatment or countermeasure exists. Termination of the infected host prior to full crystallization remains the only confirmed method of preventing further spread.
